🪔What Makes Shravan So Powerful for Shiva worship?

Fall in Love with the One Who Drank the Poison, and Still Offered Nectar

According to the scriptures, Mahadev’s compassion saved the world during the cosmic churning (Samudra Manthan), when He drank the deadly poison — Halahal — to protect all of creation.

Shravan Maas (July–August) is dedicated to Him in gratitude for this selfless act. 

It is a time when devotees turn to Lord Shiva with devotion and surrender.

According to the Shiva Purana:

  • Chanting Om Namah Shivaya even once during Shravan can transform lifetimes

  • Fasting on Shravan Somvar and performing Rudrabhishekam invokes Lord Shiva’s deepest blessings and brings peace & prosperity in your life.

Abhisheka (ritualistic bathing) should be done in the four watches of the night. During the first watch, I should be bathed in milk; during the second watch, in curd; in the third, in ghee; and in the fourth, in honey.

On the following day, the devotee should break his or her fast only after feeding the poor.
